How and when do we know that we are really present in the world?
My work attempts to recreate a sense of those moments that deliver an intense awareness of our interconnection with the world.
That connection happens most intensely for me through the act of drawing. It is both through the intense and prolonged looking involved, and through engagement with material. The immediacy of drawing allows a direct transference of thought, observation, intuition and response, whether I am applying charcoal to paper, or flame to a wood surface.

Although my work often begins as landscape, my intention is not simply to capture the appearance of a particular place, but a sense of the rhythms and pulse of being there.
